Volunteers needed for September McCabe event

Mike will announce his candidacy in mid-September and plans are underway to organize a La Crosse area McCabe for Governor event on Monday evening, September 25. If you would like to help work on setting up this event, there will be a planning meeting on Friday, August 25th, at 6:00pm. Please email lacrosse.for.mccabe-at-gmail-dot-com if you can attend and help plan and produce the event.

Here is a link to the free PDF version of Mike McCabe's book, Blue Jeans In High Places. It is a pretty quick read and very interesting and insightful. It contains some quality history on Wisconsin politics, both good and bad, and some great ideas on how we can change our state and country for the better. It's a worthwhile resource for any Wisconsin progressive as well as a window into McCabe's perspective and values. My guess is it'll leave you excited about his campaign for governor. Making this book free is a great example of how Mike walks the walk of a commoner and leads with integrity.

Mike wants to find common ground and work for the common good. He believes that too few have too much power and influence in government. He understands that politics work very well for the privileged few, but far too often fail us regular people.

Campaign committee formed

Today, Mike McCabe announced the formation of a campaign committee which will allow him to start raising funds for his run for governor. He plans to announce his candidacy, as a Democrat, after Labor Day.

According to the Wisconsin Radio Network, McCabe contends that running as an independent would make it harder for anyone to challenge the status quo, if Republican Governor Scott Walker runs for re-election as expected. “We’ve seen it countless times…you end up being see as a wasted vote, you split the change vote, and the status quo continues and then you get blamed,” McCabe says. “This campaign is about breaking the mold and shaking up the system, but also challenging the Democratic Party to change…that will be a big part of this campaign.”
 
The probability of a full Democratic primary means fundraising will be important. But whoever wins the role of Walker's opponent will probably need to rely more on people power and alternative forms of communicating as this La Crosse Tribune article points out. "Reports filed Monday showed Evers raised $77,558 and had $28,175 on hand. Vinehout raised $29,529 with $15,584 on hand. Wachs raised $41,190 and had $13,497. Incumbent Gov. Scott Walker raised $3.5 million and had $2.4 million on hand."

MEET Mike McCabe in La Crosse

Mike will be in La Crosse to talk about his plans and vision for Wisconsin on TUESDAY, JULY 25 at 7 p.m. at the Grand Hotel Ballroom above the Pearl Street Ice Cream Parlor (207 Pearl Street). 

For decades Mike has been an independent watchdog exposing the legal bribery of elected officials. He’s challenged both Democrats and Republicans to change their ways. His life’s work has involved putting principle over party to try to get regular people in the driver’s seat of our government. He is running for governor in the same way for the same reason.

If you can post a flyer at your community center, library, laundro, break room, local store, or someplace else, please download one here. If you want smaller ones to hand out at a meeting, to your neighbors, or in the grocery store, use these (back to back, four on a page).  NOTE: Earlier flyers had a date error (Thursday, July 25 instead of Tuesday, July 25!) The error has been corrected, but please check your flyers and make corrections if needed!!
